James Gunn, a talented American filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, and musician. Now, if you haven't heard of this guy, you've been living under a rock, man! He's responsible for some of the biggest blockbusters of our time, like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad.
Born on August 5, 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri, James had a creative streak from an early age. He loved comic books and horror movies, which inspired him to pursue a career in the film industry. He even played in a punk rock band called The Icons in his teenage years, so you know he's got some edge!
After graduating from Columbia University School of the Arts, James moved to Los Angeles to chase his dreams of becoming a filmmaker. He started off as a screenwriter, penning scripts for movies like Tromeo and Juliet and Scooby-Doo. But in 2004, he finally got to direct his first feature film, Slither, a horror-comedy that was a hit with the critics.
However, it was his work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy that really put James on the map. This movie was a massive success, making over $773 million worldwide and earning praise for its humor, action, and heart. And of course, James directed the sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which was just as awesome!
Now, James had a little bit of a bump in the road when he got fired by Disney from directing the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie after some old tweets came back to haunt him. But the fans and his fellow filmmakers rallied behind him, and Disney eventually rehired him in 2019. And let me tell you, I can't wait for that movie to drop in 2023!
